Quality water that has been springing in abundance from the Izumi mountains since ancient times has helped develop the textile industry in the Senshu area. Major manufacture of cotton cloth, bandages, etc, was establish there and, at the beginning of the Meiji period, production of towels began for the first time here. The surface is gauze whilst the reverse is pile, for an item that is both soft on the skin and absorbent.
