Yakumonuri lacquerware, a traditional craft product designated by the governor of Shimane Prefecture
On Yakumonuri lacquerware, patterns are depicted with various colored lacquer, mother-of-pearl, and gold or silver powder on lacquered base material. Fine natural transparent lacquer is overlaid on it and then finished with a traditional polishing technique. As years go by, the transparent lacquer becomes clearer making the patterns more magnificent.
A magatama (comma-shaped bead) and a rabbit are drawn with colored lacquer on the wooden material. Magatama is believed in Shimane to have mysterious power, and a rabbit is an enshrined deity of Izumo Taisha, having a deep relationship with Ohkuninushinomikoto. It's light and can be easily carried! A cloth bag is included.
